Atlanta Light Bulbs, Inc. and the City of Decatur are partnering to host the 2nd annual light bulb exchange to Greenfest 2011.  Greenfest is being held May 7th on the Downtown Square.  The event kicks off at 3pm with live music and ends at 9:30pm.

Attendees will receive 1 compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb in exchange for signing an agreement to discard 1 regular, incandescent bulb when they get home.  However, if attendees bring an incandescent bulb to the event, they can receive 2 CFL bulbs!

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, CFL bulbs use 75% less energy and last 10 times as long.  The average CFL will save about $30 over its life, and pay for itself within 6 months.

Supplies are limited, so come early to get your free CFLs.  The light bulb exchange will last while supplies do.  The City of Decatur would like to thank Atlanta Light Bulbs, Inc. for sponsoring this exchange.  Learn more about their company at www.atlantalightbulbs.com

Please contact Lena Stevens, Resource Conservation Coordinator for the City of Decatur with any questions at lena.stevens@decaturga.com or 404-370-4102.

In Case of Rain

Although we are hoping for the best, it is supposed to rain off and on most of tomorrow. If it does, we will move Alma’s memorial service, “Alma Hour” to City Hall. I will try and post a message here and on Facebook if we change locations. We will also post signs at the Bandstand if we have to make the move.

Also, if it is raining, we will may have to cancel the Bonfire. Check back here for updates. Thank you and have a great weekend!

Thank you, Decatur

Despite being a little gray and chilly, Sunday morning was a perfect day to run a marathon! It was also a perfect day to be in Decatur, cheering on the runners, and making people realize just how amazing our little City really is!

Thank you to everyone who came out to volunteer and cheer! Here is just one email that a runner sent to our City Manager, Peggy Merriss:

“I wanted to send you a quick email to say thank you for the incredible welcome that your City gave to participants of the Georgia Marathon. I traveled from Orlando and it was one of the highlights of my trip.

I have a background in Local Government in Florida related to Planning and Engineering.  I was impressed with the City.  I was also extremely impressed by the enthusiasm your City had for the marathon participants.  I really left feeling that Decatur has a strong sense of community and that it would be a great place to live or work. Congratulations again.  I think your efforts will continue to pay dividends in the years to come.”

Volunteers set up the Hydration Station in front of the Holiday Inn

These guys were the best entertainment!
