Walking back from lunch today we noticed some “action” in the old Sage Restaurant space could not resist peeking in to see what was going on. We had the pleasure of meeting Nancy Castellucci. Nancy and her family will be opening a new restaurant, The Iberian Pig, in the space. The Castellucci Family owns Sugo, which is located in three sites around Atlanta, and are very excited to be expanding to Decatur with a new concept. The Family has been in the restaurant business for a couple of generations.
The Iberian Pig will feature slow roasted pork as well as a plethora of other items. They are busily creating a new menu for the restaurant and I, for one, look forward to dining there. One of their sons is a somelier, so the wine list will be awesome as well. (Of course we had to to ask about the wine! ) They hope to be open by the end of August. If interested, you can visit their website to find more information www.sugorestaurant.com.
Welcome to Decatur Castelluccis!!
[…] Metro is reporting (via The Decatur Minute) that the old Sage space on Decatur Square will become The Iberian Pig — a restaurant […]
Thanks for all the buzz. As the owner of the new restaurant, I wanted to leak a few of the new dishes that we created as well as the meaning behind the name of this new Spanish restaurant.
First, Black Iberian Pigs create the most sought after Charcuterie in the world, Iberico Ham. A signature item of the restaurant will be the acorn fed Iberico ham sliced in the center of the dining room at a carving station and served with a toasted baguette and espresso aioli.
A few of other dishes that we plan to serve:
Heirloom Composition – Heirloom tomato gazpacho, heirloom tomatoes, fresh buffalo mozzarella, basil foam, white balsamic reduction, chilean extra virgin olive oil
Pork Cheek Tacos – Slow roasted pork cheeks, fire roasted corn salsa, avocado, butter lettuce, cilantro oil
The Iberian Burger – American Waygu Beef, toasted brioche bun, bacon-onion relish, vine ripe tomato, mahon cheese, butter lettuce, eggplant fries.
We look forward to becoming a part of the community.

oh my gosh — i cannot wait — sign us up for night numero uno!
I’m extremely intrigued by the menu but I have to say that my first experience in this establishment was not favorable.
A friend and I wandered in after the Decatur Beer Festival and sat down at the bar with the intention of ordering food. I ordered a cocktail and a friend ordered a Miller Lite. He was rudely informed that “this ain’t that kinda bar.”
While I can appreciate a commitment to offering microbrews and other libations other than a domestic lite beer, I cannot appreciate snobbery of that sort. We’d been sampling many fine craft beers at the Festival and my friend simply wanted something a little lighter to cleanse the palette. At any rate, we finished our drinks and left. I’m still debating on whether I’ll return.
I would recommend contacting the owners/managers about your experience. I’m sure this is something they would like to know about and try to prevent that attitude from their staff. You can find contact information here: http://www.iberianpigatl.com/tip/about.html.
