Did you know you can sign up to receive weather warnings directly to your phone? Well, Decatur’s CodeRED Emergency Notification System offers this option to residents who chose to register. When severe weather threatens, the system alerts only the residents in the areas affected. The information is based on instant satellite feeds and other really cool technology that helps eliminate false alarms. You can register here to receive Weather Warnings.
To further protect Decatur residents during severe weather, the City has received a Hazard Mitigation Grant in the amount of $108,510 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide for the purchase and installation of four outdoor weather warning sirens. This will ensure coverage for the entire city, with a siren in each quadrant. The grant required a 15% match from the City and a 10% match from the State of Georgia.
