Some of you might be wondering about the random bell-ringing going on at Agnes Scott College. I even heard a couple of chimes this morning from my office in City Hall. At first I thought it was coming from one of the local churches until I realized that it’s spring – the time when college seniors get their acceptance letters from grad schools and find jobs related to the career paths they’ve chosen.
As an Agnes Scott alum, I know that students get a chance to ring the bell (located at the top of the main building on the College Ave. loop) when they’ve been accepted into grad school or when they get a job offer.
There are also a few exceptions. For example, if you heard the bell-ringing yesterday, it was probably Meg Beyer (pictured) celebrating. She just found out that she has been chosen as a Truman Scholar. The Scholarship recognizes college juniors who are committed to careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education or elsewhere in public service. Meg is Agnes Scott’s first Truman scholar in 20 years and Georgia’s only college/university student to earn a Truman this year.
Congratulations to Meg and Agnes Scott’s graduating seniors. Keep those bells ringing!
