Many of our residents know the city’s senior engineer, John Madajewski, but I bet few are aware that he’s a talented woodturner. At the Oct. 20 Commission Meeting John presented two beautiful bowls he made and dedicated to the Decatur fire stations. The bowls are made from trees that were located by the fire stations.
The larger bowl was made from an ash tree that was removed for the Fire Station 2 construction. The darker bowl is from a 100 year old dying oak that was located behind Fire Station 1. Each bowl will be placed in its respective fire station once construction is complete. In the mean time, they’ll be on display at City Hall.
John has been woodturning for ten years. On the weekends, you’ll most likely find him in his garage surrounded by his tools and piles of wood. The image below shows off some of his other work. Pretty impressive, eh?
