City of Decatur Fire/Rescue will be conducting a Fall Smoke Detector/Carbon Monoxide Detector Blitz October 25-27, 2013. Firefighters will move from door to door to provide smoke/CO detectors, free of charge, to residents in the City of Decatur in the interests of enhancing community and life safety.
City of Decatur Fire Department was awarded $83,505.00 for the purchase of smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. The Fire Prevention and Safety Grants are part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants, and support projects that enhance the safety of the public and firefighters from fire related hazards and injuries. Nearly, 450 homes were visited with over 200 detectors installed or inspected during the Spring Blitz. Residents who were not at home received a door hanger with contact information to make an appointment.
