This just in from Duane, Greg & Nicole and The Decatur Farmers Market…
The farmers are bringing lots of delicious nutritious fall produce to the market now. Lettuces, many different greens, turnips, carrots, potatoes, and sweet potatoes fill their displays. The other food producers continue to bring their yummy baked goods, salsa, cheeses, cured meats and other prepared foods each week. When food and other items do not sell, they go in the compost pile, to the chickens, or in the trash.
Since Labor Day there has been a drop off in the number of shoppers at both the Saturday and Wednesday markets, particularly the Saturday market. School starts, kids get busy with activities, and the number of events increases. This is the first year the Decatur Markets have been open year-round so remember to stop by and shop. You gotta eat, right?
The system relies on the vendors who make their living growing, producing and selling food and they need a year-round market for their products. The Decatur Market offers those opportunities. They believe in the importance of a strong local food system.
Duane, Greg & Nicole would love to hear from you and see you at the market. Send an email to decaturfarmersmarket-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to receive their weekly updates and find out what’s new.
