Got you didn’t I? No houses came down but people did learn how to research their house’s history, how to restore windows, and much more at the 2nd Decatur Old House Fair held March 6th. Nearly 300 people spent their Saturday learning about storm windows, energy efficiency in old houses, hiring contractors, “greening” their houses, and creating historic landscapes and interiors.

Guest speaker Jane Powell gave a terrific lecture on Bungalow interiors and people were able to meet 30 tradespeople, contractors, and retailers who specialize in “old house stuff”.
Kudos to our plumbing exhibitors Plumbworks and M.Cary and Daughters for making the show a wacky event. Attendees were able to witness a toilet that flushed potatoes and the “daughters” had a dart throwing competition for giveaways. (I’m increasing the insurance for next year!). Thanks also to Cheryl Burnette for the terrific pictures of the event!
We’re holding the fair in 2011 and the date is tentatively set for February 26th. Check out our website at www.decaturoldhousefair.com and become a fan on our Facebook page for updates. If you want to be part of it (and you know you do!), send me an email at regina.brewer@decaturga.com.
