Friday: Fab Friday in WePo. Visit the shops along West Ponce de Leon Avenue for a special shopping experience. Participating shops include Boogaloos, Heliotrope, Sawicki’s, Kaleidoscope, Peggy’s Boutique, Nathalie’s Fish House, Tastings, Eviva, Fabutique, Cafe Cliche, Decatur CD and Whit’s End.
Sunday: Church Street Staycation, 1-4 p.m. The merchants of Church Street have planned a Sunday afternoon of summer fun packed with entertainment – kid activities, live music, street performers, cool treats, special discounts, trunk shows, artist demonstrations and door prizes. Participating shops include Mingei World Arts, Java Monkey, The Seen Gallery, Leon’s, Hoopla, and Taste.
What a over exaggeration of activities! Not one street performer, no kids activities and one guy on a guitar was the live entertainment. Very disappointed.
So sorry you were disappointed by the Church Street Staycation. These six businesses got together to plan an event that would be fun and showcase a variety of artists and activities. The day proved to be a scorcer so many of the events ended up being held inside the individual shops & restaurants.
I saw a clown making balloon animals, a musician playing two different instruments, James Dean out on the street painting Pete the Cat along with 4 other artists inside The Seen Gallery. Taste demonstrated how to make a southern mojito and gave samples away. Hoopla had a sock puppet workshop along with a trunk show. Java Monkey had their performers inside. Mingei had two artists and Leon’s had a portrait artist. And, they gave away prizes.
They plan to hold two more Staycations – July 19 and July 26. Each shop plans different events and activities so each Staycation will be different. Hopefully, it will be a little cooler and more activities can be held outside their shops.
The Staycations are not to be confused with the large city-wide events such as the Beach Party, Arts Festival, Book Festival – all of which have special dedicated large children’s activity areas that have sponsors. Instead, they are put on by the businesses individually and are on a much smaller scale.
We welcome you back anytime and I apologize that you were misled by our description of the event.
