In accordance with the City of Decatur’s Emergency Response Plan, the City’s Emergency Management Team continues to monitor the information related to the outbreak caused by a new influenza virus, H1N1, of swine and avian origin. Decatur residents are urged to take the preventative precautions recommended by the CDC including:
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
- Wash your hands with soap and water, especially after you cough or sneeze. Alcohol-based hand cleaners are also effective.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you get sick, stay home from work or school and limit contact with others to keep from infecting them.
- If someone is ill and has recently traveled to an area affected by swine flu or has been in contact with someone who has been infected with swine flu, have them contact their health care provider immediately.
