Starting this week you’ll be able to pay for parking on N. McDonough and East Court Square with your cell phone. Eric Groft, from StreetSmart, has been out since 7:30 a.m. this morning testing all the meters with his cell phone. We’ll be in testing mode during the next couple of days, but once the new instructions are posted on each meter, all 54 meters on N. McDonough and East Court Square will be ready to accept payments through cell phones.
Decatur is the first municipality to test the Pay-By-Cell service. You’ll still be able to pay with change, but the cell phone option allows you to pay for your meter, get a text message receipt and a reminder when the meter is about to expire all with one quick phone call.
The first time you use the Pay-By-Cell service will be free. If you choose to use the service again, you’ll be asked to register at www.goparknow.com to create an account.
We’ll post more details on the system once all the meters on N. McDonough and East Court Square are live.
Can’t wait to try it. Does it cost anything?
Hi Lia,
The first time you use the system, it will be free, but their will be a $.25 transaction fee for each time you pay with your cell phone.
I’ll be posting a Pay-By-Cell flyer on the blog today, which should help clear up some things.
Thanks for stopping by!
